BIKIDZAYA & MAORO – REPORT 7
September 22, 2023Jambo Rafiki’s,
Our teams have been working hard to complete plans for the 2024 service projects in Kenya. We have identified two villages in need of educational infrastructure, and are collaborating with members of these villages to implement life-changing improvements for the children.
The first project is at the Kitengwani Primary School, which was established in 2008. Kitengwani means “to isolate,” reflecting the school’s unique location between two rivers, making it feel like an island. The Kitengwani Primary School has an enrollment of 410 students but faces a shortage of 3 classrooms. We are addressing this by constructing the first two classrooms, along with a toilet block and a water cistern, to improve the learning environment for the students.
Below are a few photos of the existing, humble school building. Keeping in mind the number of students enrolled and the state of the existing structure, you can see the genuine need for new classroom buildings.
The community surrounding the Kitengwani school largely comprises small-scale farmers, who primarily cultivate and sell cassava, a hearty plant harvested for its root and used for food and animal feed. Women in the area often collect and sell firewood or charcoal, while men typically engage in coconut harvesting.
As you can see, the ground-breaking has already begun on the toilet blocks, the water cistern, and the classroom buildings. Although construction is underway, we need additional donations to complete the important work of bringing learning opportunities to this community and immeasurable joy to the lives of these deserving individuals.
We’re excited to make our way over in September of this year to continue making a difference.
The second project is at the primary school in the village of Bengoni. With 452 students, the existing school is facing a deficit of five classrooms and critically needs desks. Anyone can donate to sponsor desks, or make a general fund donation. We will post on the progress at the Bengoni Primary School when updates are available.
The work you contribute to these communities through your generous donations will be life changing for these good people, and we’re excited to get started making a difference.
Asante Sana,
Everyone at Grant Victor!
